Source: dip://troll.me/eating-sand-like-a-boss/

Have you got a baby that eats sand? We do. On the first trip to the beach with her, I thought, she will figure it out, sand doesn't taste great. But she didn't. On our second trip to the beach she ate yet even more sand. She ate so much sand that we found it in her pants the next day.... if you know what I mean. So as a responsible parent what are we supposed to do? You can't avoid sand at the beach, its everywhere. Our other children were unimpressed by the culinary potential of sand and it has never been an issue with them. Is there a trick to stopping sand eating? I am hoping she will grow out of it. We are testing this hope tomorrow on a trip to the beach. Wish us luck!!!!

On a side note, someone who obviously doesn't have this problem with her children has created a great Sand Cake recipe (an actual cake not made of sand), which we have linked here. It's a little bit different and looks like a whole love of fun. From I am Momma Here Me Blog.

Here's the basic recipe. There are three layers and you rotate them, layering the bucket until it's full.

Layer 1: 1 package of smashed cookies (of your choice)

Layer 2: 2 small packages of vanilla pudding, 3.5 cups of milk, 12 oz. of cool whip

Layer 3: an 8 oz. package of cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter (room temperature), 1 cup powdered sugar

What about some great water play activities? Just fill a tray or the sink or a paddling pool with water and use some of these free and fun ideas below.

Find the Treasures!

Gold panning for toddlers. Create a few small bags of sand filled with a 4 or so little plastic toys, coloured rocks or plastic jewelery. Use a round dish with a little edge and fill it with one of the sand bags. Then help them dip it into the water and swirl it around until the sand and water is sloshed away to reveal their little treasures. Dressing up as a pirate to do this would make it even more fun! For younger children, use a pasta sieve instead of the dish, and the sand and water will just run out the bottom and the treasures can still be discovered!

Float or Sink?

A great science experiment you can do with kids is the sink or float experiment. Gather a few items from around the house, such as a coin, a plastic toy, a tin can, an apple, a key, a feather, rock and a leaf. Make a guess with each item wether it will sink or float in the water. Its lots of fun to see who is right. It also gets them thinking. Sesame Street has done a great You Tube Video with The Cookie Monster, on the sink or float experiment. Watch it with your child before you do the activity. It really is a great You Tube video! Click here to see it: http://youtu.be/rsr3QqnXbAY

Containers Containers Containers.

Grab a few old containers or plastic cups, put about 15 small holes in the bottom of one so they can make "rain". Put a large hole in the centre of another container for funneling. Leave some containers intact so they can fill them up using the rain cup and funnel. Pouring jugs are also great. You could also mark some lines on the containers and challenge them to fill the water up to the line. It takes some concentration! The sky is the limit for this activity. I usually just raid the tupperware (but not for the "rain" one!)

Spray bottles

Spray bottles filled with water are so much fun for kids. They can spray themselves or other items in the tray. If your keen put some food colouring in the bottles and they can also spray some paper and make some great artworks.

Boat races.

You can't have water play without playing boats. If you don't have any plastic ones, you can make your own. There is a great website called Ziggity Zoom and it has a print out instructions on how to make Milk Carton Boats. Click on the image to go to their website to get the steps.

Don't forget to stay sunsafe if you are doing this outside. Dress them in their rashies and hats so you know they will be safe. Of course this goes without saying, make sure you supervise children at all times during water play. THANKS FOR READING. HAVE A SPLASHING GOOD TIME!

We have some Prep School starters this year in the Rashoodz team families. We were starting to worry about what to pack in their little lunch boxes. Here are some really cute ideas, that we thought were so good that we just had to share.

1. Funky Lunch has some amazing ideas for jazzing up the plain old sandwich. They even have a book you can buy that gives you a hundred more ideas. Definitely a website to check out.

2. Butterfly Snacks idea from Pintrest. A simple peg painted with googly eyes and a pipe cleaner. Using a clip seal bag with two different types of snacks separated in the middle with a peg. Easy and reusable. Sometimes all it takes is a little prettying up to make picky kiddies eat.

3. Free printable jokes to pop in the lunch box. The Gunny Sack website has kindly shared this free printable. Just print, glue and cut! Pop in the lunch box to give them a little smile.

4. A simple idea from Scissors and Spatulas Blog. Just use chalkboard spray paint on the inside lid of the lunchbox and just like magic you have a message board to write little notes to your darlings! Too easy and super cute.

5. Want to jazz up a the humble banana? Why not write on it with a toothpick or draw their favourite cartoon characters. After a short while the inscription goes brown and stands out. Your own personalized banana! What a great idea shared by Come together kids blog.

6. Rainbow Lunch. How do you get all those essential nutrients and vitamins packed into a lunch and more importantly eaten? Make it look beautiful, make it a rainbow lunch. This idea from Healthy Lunch Ideas blog is inspiring. It lists some suggested foods, but its not hard to find all these colours at the local fruit and vegi market!

7. The Lunch Punch. This little sandwich cutter makes lunch box creations easy! Just make the sandwich and cut it out! They have many shapes to choose from. Planes, Cards, Puzzle pieces, fairies, crowns. So easy and why not also use them at your next party for fairy bread shapes.

If you have any other ideas you would like to share, or if you would like to show us how you went with these ideas please email, comment or post to our wall at www.facebook.com/rashoodzswimwear

Good Luck to all our little Prep School Kiddies! We are so proud of you.
